35 Weeks – Pregnancy Update

I meant to post last week with my 34 week update but with my pregnancy brain, I forgot my password and locked myself out of my blog… lol. Oops. I’ve been starting to accidentally add weeks to my pregnancy – I keep thinking I’m 37 weeks and after enough times of realizing that wasn’t true, I’ve apparently mentally adopted 36 weeks as how far along I am. SO here we are today with my 35 week update and man, oh man, is it feeling real that this could happen at any time.  Last week I looked at Brady as we were getting ready for bed and said, “Our baby is due next month”. I wish I had filmed his reaction because it starts with the “wow, that’s crazy and I’m excited” face that turns into the – “crap, that’s like no time to get everything done” face!

We’re both feeling the stress at the moment as we’ve been working really hard (mostly Brady) to finish painting the rooms that are getting new carpet installed tomorrow! Home projects are extremely time consuming but thankfully we’ve had so much help over the last couple months and weeks especially. I love the color that got painted in the nursery and I can’t wait to share photos once we’ve built the furniture and put the room together!

One of the things that I’ve been terrible with this pregnancy is taking belly photos. It’s something I’ve wanted to do because it’s exciting to see the progression… but I keep forgetting, or not feeling in the mood to have photos taken so I am a bit disappointed in myself. Here’s my belly saying goodbye to the old orange carpet.

We haven’t been able to get out much because every waking hour feels like we’re working on the house but we did get to spend some time with friends over the weekend – I watched from my shaded spot as they played a slip n slide football game.

35 Weeks – Pregnancy Update

Size of Baby

At 35 weeks, baby is now 18.2 inches, about the size of a small spaghetti squash, and weighs around 5.3 pounds!

Weight Gain

It’s a tad unbelievable that I’m now sitting on about 28-30 lbs gained since the start of this pregnancy. About 10 pounds in just a few weeks! I had a realization that most of my weight gain in the last month is water weight. I used to experience some minor swelling after activity or towards the end of the day but it would resolve throughout the night as I slept or if I put my feet up. Now, I’m constantly swollen and I feel like it’s progressively getting worse. I don’t have ankles anymore… I looked up to see how long it takes for swelling to go down after birth and it looks like it could take a couple weeks. It will be weirdly exciting to have normal feet again.

New Developments/Symptoms

I get tired so much easier these days. Even folding laundry can be an exhausting task. I’m resting more during the day and trying to be aware of how I’m feeling so I don’t push myself too far especially with all this house work going on.

Heartburn and acid reflux are starting to become quite a pain. Last night I was trying to help Brady with some painting but I was having acid reflux so bad that I almost threw up a few times. It’s also a pain to be propped up in bed, trying to sleep, and feeling little ocean waves lapping up your throat.

Hip and back pain – it is very hard to get out of bed these days because my hips and muscles around there are very sore. I have to alternate frequently between sitting, standing, and laying down because I get stiff very quickly.

It’s evident that baby is running out of space because we’ve reached a point where his kicks and movements can be painful for me.

I still don’t think the cats really know what’s going on and I do have some fears about how it’s going to be with them once the baby comes. Shadow is almost 15 – we got her as a kitten when my brother was a baby so she’s done the baby thing before and hated it. Maisie is just over a year old and can be very needy as well as extremely active and playful. I’m a bit nervous about how she’s going to react to having a baby around. Maisie has taken to napping on my laptop lately when she’s not on her tower or on me.

Food Aversions/Cravings

Lately I’ve had a few strong chocolate chip cookie cravings but for the most part I’m struggling with everything I’m eating. I can usually eat alright but everything I eat makes my mouth taste horrible which adds to feeling sick. Lately I’ve starting thinking about what it will feel like for food to taste normal again…

Exercise

Everything feels like exercise these days! Breathing feels like an exercise. It’s been hot as hell around here lately with the heat index all last week sitting around 110 degrees. Spending 5 minutes watering the garden was too much in that early morning heat. In general I’m trying to make sure I’m moving around frequently and again, home reno stuff means lots of squats, crawling, and other body movements so I’m doing fairly well considering how I’ve been feeling.

Maternity/Baby Purchases

I finished off the imperative items from our Target registry! I was able to get the Rock’n’Play for about 40% off which was super exciting and I picked up some things for myself like nursing bras/tanks and some postpartum care items. I’m currently working on finalizing our Amazon order to finish picking up the things we need from there. I’m hoping that by next weekend, we’ll have our nursery fully put together including washing linens and putting things in drawers and whatnot.

Overall Feelings

I have lots of feelings that change throughout the day about how I’m feeling. I’m so excited to meet our baby but I definitely don’t feel ready for him to be here yet. I feel like there’s so much I still need to know and prepare for. At the same time I’m still wishing for a little extra time with my honey before we officially become parents. Next weekend is our 4 year wedding anniversary so I’m really looking forward to that. Counting down the weeks til baby’s here!
