A Hot Spring Weekend: Picking Strawberries, The Beach, and Our First Date After Baby #2

It may have been a very, very hot mid-May weekend here with temperatures creeping close to 100 degrees, but it was still one of my favorite weekends of this year. On Friday, we got some housework and passport stuff done first thing before I took Henry to a strawberry farm a few minutes away. We picked through half a row and walked out of the field as a random small rain shower came along. Of course, Henry didn’t pick any to take home with all of the strawberries he picked ending up in his belly.

We were all feeling quite tired but I had really been hoping to check out a new beach so Brady stayed home with the baby and Henry and I went out for our second outing. I told Brady later that even though prior to Avery’s arrival, Henry was my everyday “work”, going out with him now is like a break since I don’t have to care for the baby/both kids.

I’ve been wanting to check out this beach on the bay since we moved to the general area 4 years ago and I’m sad we waited this long! Henry had an absolute blast running around, throwing stuff in the water, and digging in the sand. We had a little picnic and stayed until the park closed at 8. The sky was dreamy and I had a fun evening with Henry.

Saturday was the biggest scorcher of the weekend and it was hard walking outside to even get in the car because the air was so thick and muggy. We went to a baby dedication and it was nice getting to catch up with friends and see all the little kids hanging out together. The rest of the day was spent trying to keep cool and I think we even tried to go to bed a little early so we could catch up on some sleep.

On Sunday, my sister-in-law came over to watch the boys so Brady and I could get out for a little bit on our own. We joked that the last time we’d been alone was in the hospital while I was in labor and that wasn’t much of a date. Ha! We went for a quick lunch at Panera before going over to Men’s Wearhouse to check out some new clothes for Brady and pick up a new white shirt for his upcoming groomsman duties. We grabbed some Starbucks, wandered around Target, and then drove around our neighborhood for a few minutes before going home.

I’m a bit bummed that the only photo I ended up taking was of a couple of interesting-looking card games in Target so I’ll have to remember for next time. Going out was a nice practice run for both of us being away since we’re going to a wedding on Memorial Day weekend. We spent the rest of the evening hanging out with SIL. It was an overall very enjoyable weekend even though they never feel quite long enough.
