Hi, I’m Meagan! I’m a 24-year-old living in Maryland and married to my high school sweetheart, Brady. I’ve been a vegetarian my whole life and I enjoy swimming, reading, playing piano and ukulele, playing board games, spending time with my family, and snuggling my black kitty, Shadow. Watching or chasing sunsets is one of my favorite things to do and I hope to someday live on a westward facing mountain so I can watch the sunset every night.
A few days before Thanksgiving in 2011, I lost my mom to breast cancer a short 5 weeks after being diagnosed. I was in my 3rd semester of college at the time and I subsequently struggled through the next few years of school. My own health began to decline significantly because of the emotional stress I was dealing with and I seriously considered leaving school. I managed to pull through with support from my fiance and then husband and I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in May of 2015.
Exactly one week before my wedding in July of 2014, I herniated a disk in my lower back which pinched a nerve and created a (probably permanent) numbness down one side of my right leg. I dealt with extended depression because of this injury as well as dealing with a class that gave me extreme stress. I gained even more weight over that winter and by the spring of 2015 I weighed more than I ever had in my entire life. A doctor told me I’d need surgery to correct my back or else deal with the pain for the rest of my life. Without the funds to pay for the surgery, I went in search of a healthier lifestyle a goal to work towards. I found the Iron Girl Columbia Triathlon and I began a blog to chronicle my journey.
Weight loss is more than just about losing weight and My Life as Mrs is a blog about the little steps it takes to reach that goal. It’s about the highs and lows, finding happiness after loss, about finding fulfillment for my life, being inspired and being part of a community. Hopefully you find a little inspiration here today.
