Mama Approved Items You Need For A Newborn Baby

We’re almost five months in with baby number two and it’s incredible how familiar yet different the journey is when you’re doing it for the second time. There’s more confidence in basics like breastfeeding, diapering, sleep, and understanding cries but it’s also a new baby with a new personality. This post is sharing everything we’ve been using so you can know what you need to survive with a newborn baby.

The Ultimate List of Newborn Must-Haves

This post contains affiliate links through which I may receive compensation but opinions are always 100% my own. This compensation helps to maintain the costs of keeping this blog running – thank you for supporting My Life as Mrs!

I wrote this post a year ago when Henry was only a month old but somehow it never got published. So here I am with my 15-month-old finally getting around to sharing my newborn must-haves because I hope it will help other moms! This is everything I loved and used to help me survive the first few weeks with a newborn. Also, if you want to start your own registry to remember these baby products, you can get started here.

2022 Update – We welcomed baby #2 in March and I’ve made an updated list of our favorites from the last 5 months! We’re reusing a lot of items but we’ve also tried out some new products that we’ve loved and wished we’d had the first time around. You can check out that post here.

My Top Favorite Newborn Must-Haves

HaaKaa

This is a product I have recommended to any mom since Henry was born because it is one of the most useful items. If you plan on breastfeeding at all from the beginning, this is a must-have. For those first few weeks when your milk is regulating and you’re leaking a lot on the other side, you can use this to catch your letdown to save milk for later feedings. An added bonus is that it also saves you from being soaked in your own milk. I used my haakaa daily for the first 6-8 weeks while my milk regulated and I was able to save a large stash for whenever I left the baby. Instead of being hooked up to a pump, you can start your stash passively while feeding baby! I cannot recommend this enough.

If you want extra power for collecting not just when you’re feeding, then these small silicone shells that fit in your nursing bra are extra convenient (especially for staying dry).

73 Questions

It’s often fun to look back on these questions and answers posts to see what may have changed or what has stayed the same. Julie, from Peanut Butter Fingers, posted her 73 Q&A this week and I thought it would be fun to do one for myself! Pick a couple questions for yourself and let me know something about you!

Beginner Backpacker’s Packing List

Backpacking was the highlight of my summer last year and I’ve finally gotten around to sharing my beginner backpacker’s packing list. I love making lists because it keeps me from having that, “What did I forget?!” feeling. This list can be customized based on the type of trip you’re making but this is what has worked for us on all of our trips so far.

The Ultimate Disney World Packing List

I love creating lists and talking anything Disney World. So here’s my Ultimate Disney World Packing List with everything you could want to take on your magical vacation! As soon as we book a trip, I start a list. I hate the feeling of forgetting something, so I use a word document or my notes app on my phone to keep it organized. Before a trip, I print this list out and then I cross things off as I pack them.

I made a Disney World packing list before we went on our week-long honeymoon in 2014. I added to it for our 2015 spring break and both trips we took in 2017. We drove ourselves for one of these trips which allowed us to pack with more freedom aka bring more stuff.

I always include a “to-do” list with a rundown of things to get done before we leave home. That section includes things like personal care, car care, errands, and home cleaning. It helps to have a “to-do” list at least 1-2 weeks before you leave on vacation so you can spread out the errands. There’s not much worse than running out of time before you have to leave.

Things to consider when you’re packing:

  • Weather – usually warm/hot but can be cooler through winter months.
  • Length of stay – will you be doing laundry or packing clothes for the whole trip?
  • Mode of transportation – Flying over driving affects things like liquids and bag weight.
