A hot day at King’s Dominion – How to avoid Waiting In Lines!

On Friday, Brady, my sister Hanna and her friend Chris, and I drove a couple of hours down to Kings Dominion in Virginia for a fun day of roller coasters and water slides! We left in hopes that we’d get there before park opening and be in the front of the line for the “Volcano” which is probably the best roller coaster in the park. Of course, we headed straight there only to find it was closed. It was already insanely humid at hot. Just walking through the front part of the park already had me sweating all over. Brady and I bought a souvenir cup for $13 that would give us free refills for the entire day. It was a no-brainer because I think water bottles cost $4 apiece. I feel like we always drank through it within a minute or two of refilling because we were so hot.

All about me and getting to know YOU!

I’ve been thinking that I need a good way to introduce myself to all of you new readers so I’ve made a little quiz-like thing to share some of the interesting stuff that makes me, me! Please stay til the end and comment as well to share some things about yourself with me 🙂

Favorites:

Food: Basically anything either of my grandmothers makes is the best food ever. I really love Italian foods, Asian foods, and fruity sorbets and desserts.

Colors: Blues, pinks, and purples.

TV Shows: Friends is my all time favorite TV show and I have made quite a few converts out of friends and family to my way of thinking 🙂 I got hooked on Grey’s Anatomy at Christmastime last year and I’m eagerly anticipating the new season of Sherlock! I love some classics like Little House on the Prairie, MASH, and I Love Lucy.

Theme Park: I had to add this in here because I LOVE Disney World! I love it so much that we went there for our honeymoon which has made me love it all the more.

Hollywood Studios Mickey hat at Walt Disney World

Buzz Lightyear ride at Disney World

Movies: I’m actually not a huge movie person but I tend to like comedies, chick flicks, historical based, and occasionally an action flick. My favorite movie (that I can think of…) is the Proposal. I love that movie, it was so perfectly hilarious.

Books/Genres: My favorite series ever is the Anne of Green Gables books. I love the writing, I love the characters, and I love the stories. Otherwise I really enjoy reading historical fiction based books.

Board Games: I am a game collector! Not in the spend lots of money on fancy sets kind of way but just that I love playing games with family and friends. Some of my favorites include…

PC games: Surprise, I really love games! My favorites tend to be the ones I played as a kid and they’re the ones I keep going back to when I’m in the mood for a game, the exception is Age of Empires 2+3 that my hubby introduced to me while we were in college. My classic faves are: Theme Hospital, Caesar 3, Roller Coaster Tycoon, and NFS Most Wanted (2005).

Shopping: Target is my favorite love. I’ve spent so many hours and probably way too much money at Target over the last few years, haha

Last night I broke down

Last night I had an experience that’s still making me go, “Wait, did that really happen?” It was pretty freaky and not something you ever really plan on happening to you. My car broke down. 🙁

It was 9:15 pm on a major highway. It was after dark and I was alone… I was driving along, listening to music and feeling like everything was fine. Suddenly a really loud white noise overwhelmed the car. I couldn’t tell what was going on so I slowed down to assess the situation. I had a couple bikes on the back of the car but it looked normal in the mirrow. I slowed down even more and debated whether or not to take the exit I was passing (I think it ended up being a good thing that I didn’t) A few seconds after passing the exit, the sound “blew up” and the car started shaking. Mystery solved. My tire blew out.

Not just flat, it basically exploded.

I sat on the side of the road for a minute feeling bewildered before calling my husband who was playing basketball about an hour away just to let him know what was going on. Then I called my dad so he could come rescue me. Luckily he was on his was home and wasn’t too far away.

He was wearing a shirt he got for father’s day a few years ago that says “Best Dad in the World”. Perfect day to wear a superhero shirt 🙂

He was able to blow up the spare tire using the bike pump I’ve been carrying in the car and then do a quick tire change like a pro. A cop pulled up behind us just as we were putting the bikes back on the bike rack. He was stopping to make sure things were alright and I kind of wish he’d been there sooner because the whole time my dad was changing the tire, I was praying that no one was going to go crazy and veer off the road since most people drive 65+ mph on that highway.

Blown tire, broke down

Today the tires have been fixed up and the car is back to normal. My wallet hurts a little, but I’m glad that the situation didn’t end up being as bad as it could have been.

So here’s your public service announcement for the day, make sure you keep your tires fully inflated and check regularly. Make sure you do all the necessary maintenance things on your car and drive happy. Don’t get stuck on the side of the road like me.

Have a good rest of your Thursday! (3 days til triathlon! I am so not ready… 😮 )

My Husband is now a Doctor of Physical Therapy!!!

I don’t think that title is enough to exclaim how excited I am and how proud I am of my husband for passing his boards and graduating after a long and hard 6 years of study!!! It’s been a long time coming and I’m a very happy wife after this weekend celebrating my husband.

Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Graduation Regalia

Brady took his board exam on the 19th of July and found out his results on last Tuesday after a long week of waiting and he found out that he PASSED! He was able to go into graduation weekend knowing all he had to do was lock down a job. Almost half of his class of 38 took the exam since the next one isn’t offered until October.

It’s been a long week here in Michigan and especially this weekend so this is going to be a 2 part episode featuring lots of ice cream and a couple workouts from Monday-Friday.

Why I broke up with the scale

So yesterday, Brady and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary! He ended up being at work late because it was his first day doing 100% of the case load and documentation but even so we got home by 5:30. We drove up to Columbia so we could go to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. I was really torn because I really wanted the vegan cobb salad because it’s amazing but I was REALLY in a pasta mood. I went with the pasta which was good, but I probably should have followed my instincts and gotten the salad. Brady got the eggplant parmesan which is no fun because he knows I don’t like eggplant :-p

These are the only pictures we managed to take of ourselves. In the parking lot. We’re so romantic. <3

2 Years Since We Said “I Do”

Another year flown by. Another wonderful year married to the love of my life. Last year we went away to Rehoboth for a few days to celebrate but this year we’re staying home since it’s the last week of work for both of us.

Brady and I got married on July 20, 2014 at our home church and then we had our reception under a tent surrounded by twinkling lights. We left for our honeymoon under an arch of sparklers lining the driveway to our getaway car. It was a special day that would have been impossible without the love and help given by so many people. Especially from my family who flew in from all over the place to help make everything a reality. I doesn’t feel like this much time has passed, but here we are, 2 years married and about to embark on a new adventure. To celebrate, I’m sharing a few highlights of our wedding day with you. All photos are taken by my talented friend and college classmate, Joshua Martin.

Happy 2 year anniversary
