Mason Jar Virgin Mojito and Blueberry Picking – Friday Favorites #9

I’m here to share of few of my favorite things and I hope that you find something here to brighten your weekend! We don’t have any special plans but we’re looking forward to Henry having his cast removed on Monday morning! Luckily, having a broken wrist hasn’t been too hard for him or us, but things will be a lot easier once he can use his hand again. Without further ado, here are some of my favorites including a fun recipe for a mason jar virgin mojito below!

Blueberry Picking

Henry has been blueberry obsessed since we went blueberry picking in Massachusetts on the 4th of July. We went to a local u-pick farm a couple of weeks ago but the gallon of blueberries we picked disappeared quickly. So this week, my sister-in-law, Lauren, came picking with us again and we picked two gallons of berries! They’re already going fast but I’m hoping to freeze a few of them and also try out this well-reviewed blueberry ice cream.

Scalp Massage Brush

You know the amazing feeling of getting your hair washed at the salon? This scalp massager is the next best thing. I’ve been struggling with my hair lately and while my sister-in-law was visiting, she let me try out some of her hair products I was instantly in love with this brush. In the photo below, you can see that it’s a palm-shaped brush with flexible silicone bristles that it uses to exfoliate the scalp and create a nice shampoo lather. I am in love and highly recommend this brush.

Also, if you have shampoo/conditioner recommendations for someone with thin-ish wavy/curly hybrid hair, I’m in desperate need of suggestions!

Summer Sunsets

We haven’t been spending much time outside lately because of the mosquitos and the high humidity. It gets a little better in the evening so we Henry stay up “late” so we can go for a sunset walk and see all the “light-ni buzz” (lightning bugs) as Henry calls them. I’m a sucker for sunsets and since we’ve started doing this, it’s become a highlight of each day.

Air Fryer vs Toaster Oven

Our regular oven doesn’t have a convection feature, but our 6-year-old toaster oven does! Air fryers are popular at the moment but I can’t justify another appliance or the space it will take up in our small kitchen. Air fryers cook a bit faster and the air circulates better under the basket… but in the absence of an air fryer, the toaster oven convection feature does the job. I’ve been using it to get crispier fries and had great results on the egg rolls we had for lunch today! This is the toaster oven we use but there is a version that’s an actual toaster over/air fryer combo.

Mason Jar Virgin Mojito

I’ve recently stopped buying sparkling waters and juices and instead just drink water or sparkling water from the soda stream. If I want a sweet drink, I’ve been making my own and one of my current favorites is this non-alcoholic mojito in a mason jar. I add a handful of fresh-picked mint leaves, the juice of a lime, and a spoonful or two of homemade simple syrup. I smoosh it with a spoon to help release the mint flavor before filling the mason jar with ice. Put the lid on, shake it for more mintiness, and then fill the jar the rest of the way with carbonated water. A quick stir and boom – a mason jar virgin mojito.

Lolli and Pops Old-Fashioned Candy Store

Now, here’s a treat that’s going to get me into a lot of trouble. Last weekend we went on an anniversary date and treated ourselves to Lolli and Pops. There weren’t any deals so our total for a couple of bags of chocolate was over $45. The cashier was kind enough to suggest purchasing a refillable container which allowed us another whole bag of candy AND we only paid $40. The crazy thing is that now we can refill this container for $20 as many times as we want… and now we’re hooked! Haha, well played, Lolli and Pops. If you haven’t been to a Lolli and Pops shop before, it’s an old fashioned candy shop with tons of packaged and bulk treats. A couple of my favorites are the mint malt balls and the peanut butter pretzel balls!
